The Animation World Network, the largest animation-related publishing group on the Internet has released an article with animated feature composer «Secret Magic Control Agency» Gabriel Hayes. Netflix acquired global rights to the film which was released on 25 March, 2021 on the streaming service.
Hansel and Gretel find themselves in incredible adventures in a magical forest where they meet many fairy tale characters. Gretel is assigned to investigate the crime of the century – the mysterious disappearance of the King. An already difficult case is complicated by the fact that her brother Hansel becomes her partner – a well-known fraudster who casts a shadow on the impeccable reputation of the super-agent. The secret agency knows that only with Gretel’s knowledge and Hansel’s ingenuity can they find the King. Together, they will penetrate the eerie secrets of the magical world, fight the forces of evil and challenge a powerful Witch.
For composer Gabriel Hays, the new CG film’s merging of fairy tale and spy thriller storytelling let him explore themes of uncertainty, adventure, and discovery to create a score that is fun, whimsical, and has heart.
Composer Gabriel Hays has shared with AWN three behind-the-scenes videos of orchestral performances for the new Netflix CG animated feature, Secret Magic Control Agency.
The new Wizart Animation feature merges “fantasy fairy tale” and “spy mystery” storytelling, which provided a unique challenge for Hays. He found that both types of music shared some commonalities – a sense of uncertainty, but also adventure and discovery, themes which easily lent themselves to this modern take on classic characters: fun, whimsy, and heart.
«As a fan of classic spy movies and great fantasy movies — as well as their scores — I was quite drawn to the blending of the two genres in Secret Magic Control Agency,” Hays explains.
