Many people love the animated movie The Kitten From Lizyukov Street, created by the Soyuzmultfilm studio in 1988 and now it has a sequel. A 12-minute 3D animated movie is the first short film by the Wizart studio.

The sequel narrates about new adventures of the kitten from Lizyukov street. This time dreams take kitten Vasily and his puppy friend Bulka from snow-covered Russian town Voronezh to sunny Australia. The main characters won’t only get caught into the vortex of incredible and sometimes dangerous adventures, but also find new friends and, most importantly, realize that there is no place like home on whole Earth!

“Vitaliy Zlotnikov wrote screenplays for the second and thirds movies in the series. This means he thought of sequels, only didn’t manage to bring them into being in his time,” Lyudmila Zlotnikova, the screenwriter’s widow, shares her memories. “Of course, no one in the Wizart studio knew about this. They just guessed his initial idea right, which was to tell more about adventures of the well-loved character.”

The first movie was shot by Vyacheslav Kotenochkin, an outstanding Soviet animator and director – and the sequel screenplay is also approved by his son Aleksey Kotenochkin, who was working with his father on the movie of 1988, as a production designer.

“I approve the idea of sequels to Soviet animated movies, especially if it’s done with good quality. The most important thing is that they should have all the components of a good movie – good-quality animation, good-quality music and an interesting plot. It’s especially nice to know that the sequel will be made in Voronezh,” Aleksey Kotenochkin comments.

The creators of The Kitten from Lizyukov Street sequel promised to preserve the original style of the first Kitten movie most accurately. For example, the well-known song from the first movie If You’re a Kitten by Vladimir Migulya will be sung by his widow Marina Migulya again. “The Kitten from Lizyukov Street is already a part of the story of my family as well as memory of my husband and my favorite movie director – Vyacheslav Kotenochkin. I would be against a remake of the classical story, but I really liked the idea to continue the kitten Vasily’s adventures. I saw other works by Wizart and consider them a very talented and promising team of young people.”

A special place in the movie is devoted to Voronezh, a native town of the Wizart studio – as the movie is aimed to attract new attention to the town, by tourists as well. You will be able to see recognizable places of the current Voronezh in the animation.

The director of the Soyuzmultfilm studio Boris Mashkovtsev commented at the release of the animated movie sequel: “We are very happy and grateful to the Wizart Animation team for continuing the famous kitten’s story, which has also inspired us and gave us the idea to make a joint project of a TV series.”
